HEY PIANO 4UPrivacy Policy
This policy explains what happens to information when you use heypiano4u.com (“Hey Piano 4U”, “we”, “us”). We run the site as Phillistine Records in Ontario, Canada. We have tried to keep it short and accurate. If something here is unclear, email %(e)s.
The short version
- There are no accounts, and we do not ask you for your name, email or payment details to use the keyboard.
- What you play, your scores and your badges stay in your browser. They are not sent to us.
- If you connect a MIDI keyboard, the notes are used only inside the page to make sound and light the keys.
- Our web host handles ordinary technical data when your browser requests a page or audio file. Links to the Internet Archive lead to a site with its own policy.
- We do not sell personal information.
Information that stays on your device
The site stores a small amount of data in your browser’s local storage so it can remember you between visits: whether you have seen the first-run tip, your daily-tune streak, the badges you have unlocked, your best score on each song, and your best results in the games. This data never leaves your device through our site. You can remove it at any time with the “Clear my progress” button on the home page or by clearing your browser’s site data. The site works without it. The site does not set cookies of its own.
MIDI keyboards and your computer’s sound
If you choose “Connect MIDI keyboard”, your browser asks for permission to access MIDI devices. Hey Piano 4U reads the notes you play only to make sound and light keys on the page. Nothing you play is recorded or uploaded. The share button creates a score image in your browser; it leaves your device only if you choose to share or save it.
Information collected by our host and by third parties
Hosting. Hey Piano 4U is delivered by Cloudflare Pages. When your browser requests a page or an audio file, Cloudflare receives technical information such as your IP address, browser type and the page requested, and may keep logs for security and performance. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy for details.
Links to the Internet Archive. The organ listening room lists recordings hosted on our own site and links to the original items on archive.org. If you follow those links, the Internet Archive’s own privacy policy applies to that visit.
Email. If you write to us, we receive your email address and whatever you tell us. We use it only to reply and to keep a record of the request. We do not add you to a mailing list.
We do not currently run analytics or advertising scripts on the site.
Advertising
We may apply to show advertising, for example through Google AdSense, to help cover the cost of running the site. If we turn ads on, third-party vendors, including Google, may use cookies or similar technologies to serve ads based on your visits to this and other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies lets it and its partners serve ads based on your visit to our site and other sites. You can manage personalised advertising at Google Ads Settings and learn about other choices at aboutads.info or, in Canada, youradchoices.ca. Where required, for visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, we will show a consent message before using non-essential cookies for advertising. We will update this section and the date above before ads go live.
Children
Hey Piano 4U is an educational tool that families may use together. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Because the site has no accounts and we do not ask for personal details, children can use it without giving us any. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, email us and we will delete it. If we show ads, we will configure them in line with the rules that apply to our audience.
Your rights
We hold almost no personal information about you: the only data we may hold is an email you sent us. Depending on where you live (for example under Canada’s PIPEDA, the EU and UK GDPR, or California privacy law) you may have the right to ask what we hold, to correct it, or to have it deleted. Email us and we will respond within the time the law allows. You may also complain to your local privacy regulator; in Canada this is the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
Security
The site is delivered over HTTPS. Because we collect so little, there is little to protect, but we take reasonable care and will not keep data longer than needed.
Changes to this policy
We will post changes here and update the date at the top. Material changes, such as turning on advertising, will be reflected here before they take effect.
